to ollie...
to ollie, you kick the back of the board back to get it to go up. then jump with it. after you pop the back of the board, slide your foot foward and jump with it at the same time. watch someone do it and read this at the same time. it will come naturally

alrite man, its really not that hard. you can always make videos and show/send them to pro companies and get sponsored and all that, and if they reject you send new ones the following year busting out new tricks to show some improvement. always include a letter saying how long youve been skating for, what styles you can do tricks in (fakie, nollie, switch) and what you can do for each one. dont make yuor video much longer than a minute. bust out your 10 favorite tricks and do some technical stuff, like kickflip a gap to manual or shuvit-manual down a bank and shuvit out. you can add some music, it never hurts.
but if you live in nyc, its a lot easier than that. im pretty sure its the same way in any big city... there are different spots where sponsors tend to come by and hang out, and where teams make videos or just skate. for instance, the globe. there are spots all around midtown to hit up, and one day some woman from official ny will give you her business card and ask you to keep in contact. at big spots you meet big names-- ive skated with zoo york, bootleg, mystery and abc. and theyre all jerkfaced not a very nice persons. my advice to you is keep skating for the fun of it, and dont sell out.
