Hey guys(and girls)...my name is April and I am just learning to skate. There is a park by me that I can go to. All I can basically do so far is ride around and turn wide turns. But when I get going fast, I cannot turn cause I wipe out. I am trying to practice ollying on my lawn but it is really hard. I really wanna learn and everyone always tells me that skaters are all about helping newbies. So, help ANY advice would be great. I have a Powell deck right now and it seems to be like really fast, too. What is the best way to learn? Just skate and pick up things as I go or ask people? It is very intimidating! Thanks you guys!!!! You're awesome.

Well i never came to ne1 for ollie help, but asking around is always good, so listen up, u wanna step down w/ur back foot but dont, let the board hit the ground, so right b4 it's about to hit the ground slide ur front foot up to even out the board, if u want more info got to: projectusesoap2.proboards27.com/index.cgi

if your only able to turn wide turns then either try loosening your trucks(easy way out) or learn kick turns

I think I only make wide turns because I suck so hard. I am scared to make tight turns cause I lose balance. And even when I push off and stuff, I still feel like kinda wobbly or something. My board is really wobbly. Is that normal? You guys are awesome! Thanks! I am still practicing the ollie.

o, if ur board is wobbly, then just tighten ur trucks

But don't tighten it to much because your board may start to go in a certain direction on its on. (without you turning it).

ok, cool, i tightened my trucks...and it is not wobbly but i am still kinda nervous on my board when i am pushing off. like i push off with little steps instead of nice long strides like all the good boarders do. tips on how to not look like an idiot?

Really it's not a tip for that, you just have to build up the confidence and practice to get the long strides. But if it is that you are scared to go fast to do a trick, a thing that helps me is to just try to do the trick to fast where I know I won't land(not to fast were I will hurt myself) But then that will build your confidence.

Not trying to talk about you but don't call it the ramp thingy's because it makes you sound like you don't know what you're talking about, and you know already how some boys make fun of girls, but anyways it's nothing stupid about being scared to ride up and down the ramps. I mean you just have to get use to it because just think all of the people you see there not scared on the ramps i'm sure they've been on them hundreds of times. ya know so just practice and don't be afraid.

personally I don't think that you should've bought all of that new gear to start off, because first you have to get the basics down and when you are begining you are more likely to scratch, tear, and break your board. But it's cool the things you got.
